Abstract

Although research suggests that children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) are at risk of suffering reading problems, there is shortage of research on emergent literacy development. Therefore, the objective is to systematically review emergent literacy research using this population. Searches of the database between 1998 and 2018 yielded four articles that met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The results suggested difficulties in emergent literacy skills among children with SLI. The findings highlight the need for more research, especially among Spanish-speaking children.
