Abstract

This article describes the results and conclusions of a research on reading habits and literary competence in students of 4th ESO. The project came up from the need to obtain specific information about the literary competence of students. The teachers talk a lot about what their pupils know or do not know, about what they must and must not do, about what the teachers have or do not have to do and also about what the education authorities should carry out. In other words the teachers put into words their thoughts but they rarely do it in a systematic way. This work brings specific data about literary preferences, reading habits, fiction consumption, literary knowledge, etc., of students. The purpose of this data is to convert the spontaneous concepts (the teachers´ thoughts) in more scientific concepts, allowing to modify those aspects in which students present the greatest deficiencies.
