Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore riddles and songs that are useful for Nursery Education. It is relevant for teachers training to have a suitable knowledge of the poetic genre and at the same time, not to lack those cultural aspects received through a process of time. As Eleanor Cook points out in her original study (2007), riddling illuminates the greatest mysteries through the smallest things. “The world presents itself as a riddle”, she writes. “Is riddle a genre, a form, a mode, a trope, a masterplot? This question helps us to highlight the importance of riddles. The framework for all these ideas is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Our main objective is to emphasize that both linguistic and literary education have a context and, in that way, children can develop their skills. This means that poetry could be linked to teaching suggestions with vocabulary from other languages, with sounds from other languages which are more beneficial, in terms of situations and contexts, for the students.
