The value of reading in relation with the reading behavior. A study about reading habits and lifestyle in children

Abstract

This paper describes the results and conclusions of a research on value of reading of children, their reading habits and their lifestyle in leisure. The sample of the current study was composed of 1.669 students of Primary School (847 men and 822 women). A psychological and specific reading questionnaire was used. The results showed that value of reading varied among participants as a function of reader behaviour and reading habits. Correlations were observed indicating that students who tend to values instrumental of reading also maintain more reader behavior. Female were shown to have higher levels of reading as compared to males. In both, women and men, their reading habits levels positively correlate with their parents’ reading habits. The findings are discussed in terms of the relevance of school context and the teacher in the reader education.
