Abstract

The following research action Project will offer several teaching guidelines in order to design, implement and evaluate a new method, based on didactic units, to improve reading activity that ensures this basic competence development. This research project was designed and evaluated in our university department of Educational Research Methods. Firstly, it was deployed in a Primary School in Guadalajara province (Spain). For two years, teachers from the school were taught how to prepare specific teaching materials, which were afterwards assessed and implemented throughout all the different years of Primary Education. Using a pre-test and post-test evaluation methodology, it could empirically be proved the academic benefits that this reading experience contributed both to students and teachers and, indirectly, to students’ families.
