Analysis of initial literacy depending on the type of family

Abstract
Family literacy is a topic of interest because of its influence on child development, enhancing or hindering the reading-writing process. The goal of this research is to describe the family educational practices and analyse the existence of significant relationship between literacy practices and the type of nuclear, large and single-parent families. The sample consisted of 60 families from different socioeconomic levels with children in early childhood education in the city of Medellin, which were administered Practices Inventory literacy. The results show that there are significant relationships between literacy practices and the type of family that uses them. Consequently, the professional educations have to design children's literacy programs as an effective teaching tool addressed at nuclear and large families.
