Abstract

This research is based on the hypothesis that reading comprehension is a key element to access to the literary theme and develop the literary competence of adolescents. The main purpose is to analyse the relationship between the reading comprehension levels of high school students and their literary competence through the literary work of Eliacer Cansino, a childhood and youth literature author  To this end, a statistical methodology based on inductive reasoning with a quantitative design has been used, taking as a reference a sample of 264 third-year secondary school students from the Bay of Cádiz. These students answered a questionnaire from which data have been obtained based on the intertextual relationship of Eliacer Cansino's literary work with texts of Spanish literature linked to school curriculum. The results show a need of working on reading comprehension among students to facilitate the access to the literary text in order to develop their literary competence
